MEDICAID

Medicaid has discontinued the Primary Care Case Management (PCCM) model and has transitioned patients to third party payer programs.  Dr. Perryman does not particpate with any of the Medicaid Third Party Payer's.  If your child was covered under the PCCM version of Medicaid you should have already received and returned your plan selection paperwork.  When selecting a new plan, you will also have to select a new physician since Dr. Perryman does not participate with any of the Managed Medicaid plans. Vaccines and Pain Relief

04-24-2012

Many parents worry about the pain associated with vaccinations.  While no one wants to cause pain and discomfort in children most vaccinations can only be administered with an injection.  Even though the pain associated with the injections is temporary and typically passes relatively quickly parents ask what they can give thier childrent o help relieve the pain.

If your child is experiencing discomfort longer than an hour after receiving immunizations, you can give them acetaminophen containing products. It is not recommended to use ibuprofen containing products such as Advil or Motrin with vaccine administration.  Also, never use asprin containing products in children less than 18 years of age.

You can also try some of these methods of consoling your child after immunizations:
1) remain calm, research has shown that as much as 50% of child's distress is directly related to parent behaviour,
2) for older children, distraction can help them forget the pain assocationed with their shots,
3) For infants that are still being breast-fed you can try feeding them immediatedly after they receive their immunizations.

Dr Perryman completes Black Belt Testing

03-09-2012

On March 8, 2012 Dr. Teri Perryman completed her American Society of Karate (ASK) Black Belt testing.  She is now a  "Black Belt in Waiting".  She will formally receive her Black Belt on Mothers Day May 13, 2012 at the Annual Hill Country Karate (HCK) Black Belt Ceremony held at the Texas Luther University campus in Seguin, Texas.  The event is schedule to start at 7:00pm.

Black Belt testing started on Sunday March 4 with a 300 question written exam followed by the Tri-Star event.  The Tri-Star event consists of running a 3 mile course with multiple stops along the way for doing Push-ups, Situps, Duck Walks, Mountain Climbers, and Pull-ups.  On Monday March 5, the candidates test consisted of PT (1 mile run, 5 minutes jump rope, Push ups and Situps) followed by doing all of the ASK Techniques 25 times in both Left and Right stances.  Tuesday March 6, the candidates test started off with PT again followed by doing all of the different Kata's ("dance forms") a minimum of seven times. Kata is  a Japanese word describing detailed choreographed patterns of movements practiced either solo or in pairs.  Finally on March 7 and 8 each of the candidates for Black Belt participated in what is known as "Fight Night" because the candidates are literally fighting for 60 minutes. However, due to the number of candidates for Black Belt this year Fight Night was divided into two nights with half of the candidates fighting each night.

IMPORTANT PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO

03-08-2012

We are lucky. We live where our fears and worry actual can be quite mundane compared to others. Most of us are privileged but do not realize it. This was brought to my attention and I am compelled to share it with everyone I know. I urge you to do the same.

The below video is 30 mins.  It is 30 mins that I believe each person should be willing to spend and share with others.  This 30 mins is the beginning of something that could change our world for the better.  I know we are all busy.  That finding 30 spare minutes is difficult.  I urge you to take the time.  Put your child to bed and come watch this video.  In the morning when they wake I up I bet you look at your child with different eyes.
